HOTEL DESCRIPTION: |
|
Geejam, an ‘über
luxury’ insider escape, is located in San San, close to Port
Antonio, in the parish of Portland, on the pristine shores of
north-east Jamaica. While blending all the creature comforts of
home, it’s very much a portal into authentic Jamaican culture.
Nestled in the heart of the bush, this Island Outpost property’s
newly appointed seven double rooms, consist of three deluxe
cabins, one suite, and a self-contained three-bedroom villa.
Also included are a state of the art Recording Studio, Healing
Spa, Swimming Pool, Gym and Bushbar, forming an exclusive
universe within the natural beauty of the grounds. Recently
nominated by the Jamaican press as one of the “top ten most
fascinating places to hang out,” the Bushbar follows the overall
Geejam mantra of a grassroots approach to relaxation,
restoration and reinvention. Achieving a stylish equilibrium
between ultra modern technology and the intrinsic grace of the
natural island landscape makes this the Geejam signature
trademark.
Located on six acres of lush San San
Estate, the property extends from the foothills of the John Crow
and Blue Mountain chains to the Caribbean waterfront, thereby
connecting a palette of greens to vibrant hues of blue and
turquoise. Within immediate proximity is Frenchman’s Cove --
voted by Condé Nast as one of the world’s top five beaches --
and the equally enchanting Blue Lagoon, Geejam sits tall amongst
several other stunning beaches. The property borders Drapers, a
little known village until Gwen Stefani of No Doubt gave it
props at the 2003 Grammy Awards, as a result of the band
recording their last album at Geejam. A ten-minute drive west
will find you in the historic town of Port Antonio, the capital
town of the parish of Portland, located on the northeast coast
of Jamaica and shrouded by the Blue Mountains. Home to the Errol
Flynn marina, it boasts a thriving hub of local culture, with a
varied nightlife, including Ska bars, Reggae sound-systems and
nightclubs. Also within easy reach are excursions to the
cascading Scatter, Reich and Somerset waterfalls -- a day’s
rafting being a must at one or more of these extraordinary
natural wonders. Hiking and jet skiing are also popular sports
in this part of the island.

ACCOMMODATIONS: |
|
Sprawling vistas, cloistered tropical niches,
breathtaking beachfront and forest hideaways make Geejam a
singular high-end resort experience. The sea air, the ocean sun
and the balmy Caribbean breeze emote a twenty-four-seven
atmosphere of organic elegance, capturing that mystical spirit
of the natural high, while preserving the shabby chic vibe that
is intrinsic to all Island Outpost properties.
A
well-proportioned mix of upscale interiors matched with the
intrinsic beauty of the natural environment enlivens the senses.
The treated wood decks, palm tree-lined stone paths and groves
of avocado, breadfruit, sour sop, cashew nut, plum apple and
star fruit trees combine to create a Caribbean Garden of Eden in
the womb of a tropical paradise. The centerpiece, which also
serves as the foundational structure of the Bushbar, is composed
of two three hundred year-old fig trees whose majestic sweep
adds a sublime scale to the already awesome indigenous
landscape.
Sanwood
Sanwood, the original
villa, was designed by renowned British architect Anthony Wade
in the late 1960’s and is distinguished by a contemporary
nautical theme. Included with the three guest rooms (SW1-3), are
two upper deck verandas, a kitchen, outdoor pool, and media
lounge, all of which provide a stylish, next-level living
environment. The main room, doubling as a media lounge, and
featuring an audio/visual library and a private photographic and
pop art collection from the likes of Geejam aficionados Banksy
and Juergen Teller amongst others, is a place to work, play or
recharge in the company of like-minded globalistas.
Deluxe Cabins
Unlike the traditional definition of a
‘cabin,’ Geejam’s deluxe brand of cabins are an exclusive
feature of the estate. Strategically positioned so as to
preserve all the trees and shrubbery around them in an
eco-friendly fashion, their rustic, forest-blending exteriors
give way to luxurious modern interiors, whose digital amenities
and sleek contemporary design redefine a tropical Caribbean
accommodation.
Ska, Mento and Rock steady are the three
unique cabins named in homage to the legacy of their respective
Jamaican musical genres. The interiors are mellow, airy
octangular spaces with glass doors opening onto an elevated
surround sound view. As part of the community surrounds, you can
occasionally hear the ambient reverb of the sound-systems
rolling across the hills, or a rooster announcing the day, both
of which add to the aural landscape of the property. All
bathrooms are specialized according to each unit.
Ska
boasts a deliciously situated Jacuzzi on one of its two
verandas, which overlooks the forest and the ocean beyond. In
addition, glass doors that can be opened for a spectacular
interior-to-exterior experience enclose its spacious interior.
Perched on the side of the hill, Ska’s location gives way to a
singular view of the undulating ocean and the sprawling Jamaican
horizon.
Highlighted by its lush rain forest surrounds,
Mento is the ultimate nest for luxurious escape. This deluxe
cabin also features an indoor bathroom with a steam room leading
onto a patio, complete with a hammock for morning and evening
relaxation. Located in a private niche, Mento fuses all the
intimacy of a secluded hideaway. The cabin’s high ceilings and
white linens lend an atmosphere of elegant minimalism,
complimented by a sweeping panoramic overlook of forest and sea
from the extended veranda.
Drum & Bass - The Suite
A signature suite, housed on the ground floor of the
recording studio, Drum & Bass is something of a music head’s
most far-flung fantasy. Brazilian cherry wood foldout panels
turn the room into a virtual outdoor veranda. Mesh sun chairs
and wicker chaise lounges compliment the connecting full-scale
deck. Almost a room in itself, the oversized bathroom is
furnished with a steam shower and a Philippe Starck bathtub.
Foldout windows give way to a heart-stopping oceanic panorama.
You can literally soak in the tub to the sound of the waves.

AMENITIES & FACILITIES: |
|
The amenities at Geejam are upscale while
maintaining organic standards. Subtle, streamlined patio
furnishings, hidden speakers and low-lit walkways imbue an air
of forward-thinking chic. The Day Dream canopy deck is the best
spot from which to view the waterfall, featured at the center of
the property. Fusing sleek design with a rootsy tropical
attitude, it also offers one of the best places on the property
for luxury lounging.
All rooms throughout the property
are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, spa-quality steam
rooms and showers, and flawless contemporary design. The Hans
Grohe and Philippe Starck line of deluxe bathroom settings,

digital surround sound system exists in each room, going by the
pseudonym of George, which allows you to view Apple iTV
(offering an ever-expanding menu of movies to choose from), and

throughout their stay, thereby enabling communication with all
the hotel services, other guests and of course, with the outside
world.
